Why I Paint Dog Portraits

As a life-long animal lover, its natural to use dogs as my subject. My early paintings explored the power and force of dogs running for a stick, catching a Frisbee, or leaping into space. In the process of painting dogs in motion and at play, I painted a portrait of my Golden Retreiver, Sandy. Favorable reaction from friends and family led me to paint portraits of their animals from photographs, and the response to these works has resulted in requests from others.

Each of my paintings is carefully thought out to show the individual dog to the most striking advantage. My clients value the life-like beauty of their dog paintings and respond to the compassion, reverence, and respect for animals that I express in these works. I find painting portraits of beloved pets to be immensely, gratifying, and I feel it is a privilege to paint portraits that are highly valued to others.

My paintings and prints are featured in private, public, and corporate collections. I live and work in Long Island City, New York.
